Hollow Retroreflectors are corner cube prisms composed of three coated reflectors. They have a hollow structure, are light in weight and have a certain degree of shock resistance. They can turn the incident light beam back 180° and are completely insensitive to the position and angle of the incident light. They are also called corner cubes and hollow corner cubes.
Compared with solid glass prisms, the light beams in hollow retroreflectors are externally reflected on all surfaces. This structure of the light path in the air avoids the problems of material absorption, wavelength dispersion refraction or optical path change caused by ordinary glass retroreflectors, and therefore has special advantages.
Hollow retroreflectors (also known as hollow corner cubes and back reflectors) are key components on delay lines. Their function is to enable the laser beam to return in parallel and is not affected by whether the incident angle is precisely vertical.
Hollow corner cube reflectors have a sturdy structure, an integral structure, and are made of solid aluminum. They are insensitive to vibration, position and movement, and are very suitable for Michelson interferometers, FTIR spectrometers and laser tracking systems.
The two most critical parameters of hollow retroreflectors are parallelism and aperture. The finer the parallelism, the larger the aperture, and the more expensive the price. There are many options for parallelism, such as 1 arc second, 2 arc seconds, 5 arc seconds, 10 arc seconds, and 30 arc seconds. The aperture size selection is: 12.7mm, 25.4mm, 50.8mm, 63.5mm, 127mm, etc. The coating type also has gold coating, silver coating, aluminum coating, UV coating, etc. for different band ranges.
