Germanium works in the infrared band of 600nm~16µm, with little absorption. It has absorption and filtering effects on 1.5µm beams. Germanium is very suitable for infrared laser applications. Germanium is inert to air, water, alkali and acid (except nitric acid), but its transmission performance is very sensitive to temperature. The surface reflectivity of uncoated germanium window is about 35% loss per surface, and the loss of hands passing through an uncoated germanium window is about 59%. The spectral transmittance of the wrong material is very sensitive to temperature, and the wavelength is transmitted at an ambient temperature of 100℃. The spectral transmittance of the wrong material is very sensitive to temperature; the material absorbance becomes so large that it is almost opaque at an ambient temperature of 100℃, and the whole material is opaque at an ambient temperature of 200℃. Germanium materials contain harmful substances. When operating, be sure to wear gloves, filter dust masks, chemical protective glasses and anti-penetration work clothes, and wash hands after the operation.
